This week I will advance Australia’s trade and investment interests at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Ministerial Council Meeting and the World Trade Organization (WTO) ministerial meeting in Paris.
These meetings provide an opportunity to continue to make the case for trade liberalisation.
Through effective multilateral action countries can work together to grow trade and create new jobs.
I will chair a meeting of trade ministers from WTO member countries. Australia is leading efforts in the WTO to revitalise negotiations in agriculture, services and digital trade. Global trade rules must keep up with the contemporary trading environment businesses are operating in today. I will also chair a meeting on digital trade to progress the e-commerce initiative Australia launched at the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference in Buenos Aires last December.
During my visit I will also meet with ministerial counterparts and French business leaders to advance Australia’s trade, tourism and investment interests. I will advocate for the Australia-EU trade agreement ahead of negotiations being formally launched next month.
