I will reinforce Australia’s commitment to the multilateral trading system at the 11th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference (MC11) in Buenos Aires this week.

Australia's future economic prosperity relies heavily on fair and enforceable rules that support the global trading environment.

Australia is leading efforts in the WTO to liberalise agriculture, services and e-commerce trade. I will co-chair a meeting of Cairns Group ministers to progress our goal of levelling the playing field in international agricultural trade. I will also co-chair a meeting of ministers interested in developing new rules on e-commerce.

While in Buenos Aires I will meet with trade ministers from Australia’s major trading partners to advance Australia’s trade, tourism and investment interests. This includes progressing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership with the 11 countries involved.

I will also speak at the MC11 Business Forum and participate in the launch of the Global Trade Professionals’ Alliance by the Export Council of Australia.
