Trade and Investment Minister Andrew Robb today announced the 74 finalists for the 52nd Australian Export Awards, which for the first time include an important new category of online commerce.
Mr Robb said the awards celebrate Australia’s exporters at a time when the Government is successfully gaining new levels of market access through free trade agreements with the major economies of North Asia.
“This year’s awards will see the introduction of a new digital or online commerce category which recognises the utilisation of digital technology by Australian exporters in connecting with overseas markets,” he said.
Judged across 12 industry categories according to growth, marketing and strategy, this year’s finalists are mainly small to medium sized enterprises which sell a wide range of goods and services.
They include everything from truffles, energy efficient light bulbs and racehorses through to turbocharged engines and management software. Services such as health, education and architecture and design are also represented.
Collectively, they generated more than $3.1 billion in export sales and employed more than 41,000 people. One of the finalists will also be announced as the Australian Exporter of the Year.
Mr Robb said Australia’s $300 billion a year export industry was critical for generating jobs in the domestic economy. “Expanding our base of international trade and investment allows Australia to benefit from the growth in the Asian region,” he said.
Before progressing to the 52nd Australian Export Awards, the finalists were selected as winners in their respective State and Territory export awards programs. "I congratulate all finalists who are making a significant contribution to the Australian economy, to employment and to the communities in which they operate," Mr Robb said.
The national winners will be announced in Sydney on Thursday 27 November 2014.
The Australian Export Awards program is co-presented by Austrade and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Awards are run in collaboration with the organisers of State and Territory export awards programs.
