Trade and Investment Minister Andrew Robb today warmly congratulated Tourism Australia (TA) on winning the top award at the World Routes Conference in Las Vegas.

Tourism Australia was recognised as the best in the world for its extensive marketing communications activities and successful joint campaigns with airlines, state tourism and Australian airport partners.

In particular, the judging panel recognised Tourism Australia's clear strategy 'to provide support for airlines in all the right areas showing excellence in route development'.

Tourism Australia also won the award for 'Best Destination Marketing Campaign'.

Mr Robb said this was the first time a national tourism authority has taken the top award, and all involved at Tourism Australia should be extremely proud of their efforts.

"This achievement truly recognises Tourism Australia as a world-leader in what it does. It confirms TA's effectiveness in promoting our compelling tourism story to the world."

"Tourism is an increasingly important sector of Australia's economy and the Australian Government has placed high priority on supporting and expanding Australia's efforts in pursuing lucrative international tourism opportunities," Mr Robb said.

The awards were made by a panel of industry experts drawn from the Routes network as well as senior figures from the airline network planning community.
