The Minister for Trade, Senator Bob McMullan, today announced the appointment of one of Australia's most outstanding international business leaders, Alan Robert Jackson AO, Chairman of BTR Nylex Ltd, as the new Chairman of Austrade.

"We are fortunate that an Australian business leader of Alan Jackson's stature has agreed to chair Australia's national export marketing and investment promotion organisation," Senator McMullan said.

"Alan Jackson has the skills, the international experience and the vision to lead Austrade into a very exciting future."

Mr Jackson was appointed Chief Executive of the BTR Nylex parent company in Britain, BTR plc, following 13 years as Managing Director of BTR Nylex Australia. He is a Member of the Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia, is Chairman of the investment company, Austrim Ltd, and is a Director of Nylex (Malaysia) Berhard and the China General Plastics corporation. He was awarded the Order of Australia in 1991 for services to business, industry and government.

Mr Jackson's appointment as Chairman of Austrade is effective from 1 November 1995.

Senator McMullan acknowledged the contribution of Roger Allen, Chairman of Computer Power Australia, who has been acting Chairman since the passing last May of former Austrade Chairman, Robert H Johnston AO.
