Investors from around the world will gather in Cairns today to explore opportunities in Northern Australia.
The Northern Australia Investment Forum will present high-level investors with projects, opportunities and information about investing in Northern Australia.
More than 500 delegates, including international investors and indigenous leaders, will attend the Forum, which will showcase opportunities and projects across agriculture, resources and energy, tropical health and medical research, tourism and infrastructure.
With 17 million hectares of arable land, abundant mineral reserves and 90 per cent of Australia's gas reserves, Northern Australian offers untapped potential.
It has spectacular world-class tourist attractions, and it is home to three top universities with a strong track record in driving innovation.
The region also has the added advantage of being on the doorstep of Asia, with its rapidly growing middle class who value the premium quality goods and services that Australia can provide.
The Turnbull Coalition Government is committed to unlocking the enormous potential of Northern Australia through attracting productive investment. Doing so will create new jobs and drive economic growth.
The vision for developing Northern Australia has been gaining considerable momentum since it was first outlined in the Coalition's Northern Australia White Paper in 2015.
The first Forum, held in Darwin two years ago, led to significant investments in Northern Australia. We will be working to achieve the same result today.
