Australian payments technology a growing chip off the blockchain
Australia'sposition as a leading developer of blockchain will be on display when more than100 Australian companies attend the world's top industry event in New York thismonth.
Adelegation of 50 Australian blockchain experts will attend to Consensus 2018, part of a program jointlyorganised by Austrade, Data61 andthe New South Wales Government.
The past yearhas been transformative for blockchain in Australia, with the rapid growth of avibrant ecosystem and a series of successful application launches, includingseveral global firsts.
TheAustralian Stock Exchange became the first major financial market to adoptblockchain to manage the clearing and settlement of equities, while theCommonwealth Bank of Australia and the Queensland Treasury Corporation issuedthe world's first government bond utilising blockchain technology.
Complementing this activity, Standards Australia hasreleased a Roadmapfor Blockchain Standards, intended to build marketconfidence and highlight the role Australia is playing in leading internationalefforts to develop blockchain standards.
Companiestaking part in Consensus 2018 will showcase Australian expertise in everythingfrom digital currencies and payments to agricultural supply chains, smartcontracts and identity management:
- eNome,which lets people keep their medical records and history safely on theirsmartphones;
- BlockchainGlobal, a venture builder which has already invested in more than 50blockchain-enabled businesses;
- CivicLedger; which provides tools for people to engage with government in adigitalised society; and
- Enosi, anopen-source community platform which gives energy consumers choice,transparency and efficiency.
The delegation to Consensus 2018 will boost the globalprofile of Australian blockchain developers, providing opportunities to findpartners and network with key global players.
