Business Events Bid Fund delivers first win
The Turnbull Coalition Government's newmulti-million dollar Boosting Business Events Bid Fund Program is already delivering,securing a major event for Australia.
In March this year I launched the Bid Fund,which has helped to secure the world's largest public transport event, theUnion International des Transports Publics Global Public Transport Summit 2021.
This is the firstevent to be supported by the Bid Fund Program, a $12 million fund managed byTourism Australia's Business Events Australia unit to give Australian eventbidders a competitive edge against other international destinations.
The Summit will beheld in Melbourne and is estimated to deliver a $9.4 million boost to theeconomy.
The four-day event will see 2,000 delegates from all over theworld meet at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from in June 2021.This is afantastic coup for Australia and I'd like to acknowledge the MelbourneConvention Bureau for their efforts in securing this event.
The Program funding specifically goestowards the delivery of the event in Australia, meaning every dollar spentsupports local jobs through accommodation bookings, transport and venue hire,ultimately sending every dollar back into the Australian economy.
Business events visitors spend on averagetwice that of a leisure visitor and business events expenditure in 2017 wasworth $4.75 billion, bringing more than 1 million international visitors toAustralia. The Turnbull Coalition Government continues to invest record fundinginto Tourism Australia to create more tourism jobs and drive economic growth.
