Securing supply chains in the Indo-Pacific

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Dan Tehan joined his Indian and Japanese counterparts to review progress of the trilateral Supply Chain Resilience Initiative launched in April 2021 and to endorse the Initiative’s work program for 2022.

“The strategic value of this Initiative has become more pronounced as the economic shocks of Russia’s unprovoked aggression in Ukraine disrupt global supply chains still recovering from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mr Tehan said.

“Australia’s enduring economic partnership with Japan and India – countries that share Australia’s democratic values and commitment to the global rules-based trading system – will become increasingly important for Australia’s economic security and the resilience of our critical supply chains.”

The Initiative is an important element in the Government’s international advocacy to promote transparency, diversity, predictability and sustainability in global supply chains and to leverage Australia’s competitive advantages in critical and emerging sectors.

The Initiative will maintain its collaboration with business and academia and will formulate and promote supply chain principles in the region.
