Hemsworth: our tourism hero

More than 80 per cent of Australians support Chris Hemsworth as Australia's global tourism ambassador.

The homegrown hero and Hollywood star has been an ambassador for Tourism Australia since last year, voicing the current coastal and aquatic campaign.

When asked how they would rate Chris Hemsworth as being representative of Australia as a holiday destination, 48 per cent of people responded 'excellent' or 'very good'. A further 32 per cent said 'good'.

The results are in the The Mood of the Nation survey that will be released today at the Australian Tourism Exchange.

Hemsworth has been doing the country proud as Tourism Australia's global ambassador. Since his appointment he has generated more than 4,500 media articles globally, with an Estimated Advertising Value of over AUD$137.6 million.

Chris regularly posts social media content tagging @Australia to his social audience of more than 11 million.

Hemsworth provides an authentic Australian voice to help tell our story to the world. He has the ability to capture the most incredible parts of Australia and show them off to his millions of followers in a way that is raw, humble and resonates.

The survey also found 94 per cent of Australians believe that international tourism is good for the country and 83 per cent are proud of how Australia is promoted overseas.

ATE, run by Tourism Australia, is the country's largest and premier event to sell Australia to the world. It connects Australia's tourism providers with a global distribution network to help grow the $120 billion industry and create more Australian jobs.

This year's event has more than 2500 delegates from Australia and 30 international tourism markets.
