Engagement with the Trump Administration on trade

I will visit the United States this week tofurther the Turnbull Government's engagement with the Trump Administration ontrade.

In Washington, D.C. I will meet with the US Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross.This follows valuable meetings with the United States Trade Representative,Robert Lighthizer, at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and DevelopmentMinisterial Council Meeting in Paris last week, and earlier at the APECMinisters Responsible for Trade gathering in Hanoi.

The United States is a key economic partner for Australia. It is thelargest investor in Australia and is Australia's largest investmentdestination. Two-way investment was worth $1.48 trillion last year.

The United States is our second largest trading partner. Our trade andinvestment relationship has flourished under the Australia – United States FreeTrade Agreement (AUSFTA). Since it entered into force, two-way trade has grownfrom $42 billion in 2005 to $64 billion in 2016.
