Amway incentive group coming to Cairns in 2019
One of China's largest direct selling organisations, Amway, will send up to 8,000 agents to Cairns in 2019.
Amway China holds large-scale leadership seminars, featuring a mix of business, sight-seeing and team-building activities, to different destinations each year to reward its high-achieving distributors across China.
This is the first time the leading health, beauty and home care direct selling company has selected Cairns to host its flagship corporate incentive event. Amway has previously visited Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
Federal Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, the Hon Steven Ciobo MP said this event will provide a great boost to the local economy and offer visitors the chance to experience one of the most beautiful places in Australia.
"The business events sector is incredibly important to Australia. Business events visitors are high yielding, spending on average three times the amount spent by a leisure visitor. Cairns can expect an immediate economic injection of approximately $50 million during this event," he said.
"This will be the seventh time Amway has hosted an incentive event in Australia and this speaks to the excellent reputation Australia has as a business events destination, particularly in the Asia Pacific region."
Queensland Minister for Tourism and Major Events, the Hon Kate Jones said securing the Amway conference was a major coup for Cairns and for Queensland.
"China is Queensland's largest tourism market with visitors pumping more than $1 billion into the state's economy in the last 12 months," she said.
"We are delighted to build on that momentum by hosting up to 8,000 Amway agents in Cairns in 2019.
"Not only is Cairns a world-class host for large-scale conferences like this one, but the delegates will also be given the chance to experience some of Queensland's best tourism experiences, including the world-heritage listed Great Barrier Reef.
"This Amway conference, coupled with the recent announcement that China Southern would fly three times a week between Guangzhou and Far North Queensland, means Cairns is ideally placed to capitalise on the Chinese tourism boom."
Tourism Australia has a specialist unit dedicated to promoting Australia internationally as a business events destination. Each year, they host a Business Events Australia Greater China Showcase to bring together Australian industry with Chinese incentive buyers and media.
