Australian Blockchain mission to China

  • Media release

Australia's Blockchain expertise will be on show in China this week when 20 of our top experts take part in a major mission to explore ways of expanding the commercial reach of the distributed ledger technology.

Australia is emerging as a centre of excellence for Blockchain, in particular the development of regulation and standards, while China is a world leader in the early adoption of Blockchain across industry and government.

The Australian Blockchain Mission to China, from September 13-16, will give 18 Australian start-ups and institutions the opportunity to become partners of choice for China and to facilitate the global expansion of their Blockchain expertise and products.

Blockchain, the complex trust network that underpins the bitcoin currency, holds immense promise in all sorts of future applications and is a good example of the type of innovation the Turnbull Government supports to further economic growth and diversify our economy.

The technology has broad potential applications in financial services and beyond to other types of data storage that requires cryptographic security and verification, such as smart contracts.

Delegates on this mission will meet key influencers, disrupters and potential business partners, before attending the 3rd Global Blockchain Summit 2017 in Shanghai. Some delegates will also visit Beijing to explore the local venture capital scene.

The mission is being organised by Austrade in partnership with Standards Australia and the Australian Digital Commerce Association (ADCA).

The Turnbull Government is playing an important role in bringing together Australian and Chinese innovators and companies to discuss the potential of real life cases to develop international Blockchain standards.
