WTO Ministers meeting

  • Media release

I will attend a meeting of World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministers in Morocco this week.

At the Marrakesh meeting, we will discuss priorities and prospects for the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC11), to be held in Buenos Aires in December. Australia will continue to seek liberalising outcomes in agriculture, services and e-commerce trade.

I will attend a meeting of ministers from the Cairns Group of agricultural exporting countries to support Australian farmers by progressing our goal of levelling the playing field in international agricultural trade.

I will also meet with a number of my counterparts to advance Australia's trade, tourism and investment interests.

Continuing to update the rule-book for global trade is essential to protect Australian exports and help support their growth. It is important that WTO rules keep pace with developments in the contemporary trading environment and provide a further impetus to global growth.

In Marrakesh I will also launch the inaugural meeting of the Australia Morocco Business Council with our first resident Ambassador to Morocco, Ms Berenice Owen-Jones.
