Trade mission to Mexico
I will lead a trade delegation to Mexico this week to build Australia's trade and investment relationship with the powerhouse Latin American economy.
Mexico, forecast to be among the world's top 10 economies by 2030, presents significant opportunities for Australia as the country looks to diversify its imports.
I will explore these opportunities for Australian exporters during my visit to Mexico City.
Joining me will be a delegation of Australian business leaders. The delegation will focus on opportunities in resources; premium food and beverages; infrastructure; financial services and education and research.
Australia is negotiating a trade agreement with Mexico through the Pacific Alliance - the Latin American trade bloc that also includes Colombia, Chile and Peru. We are also working with Mexico to bring the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) into force.
In Mexico City I will meet my counterpart Minister for the Economy Guajardo Villareal, Minister for Energy Joaquin Coldwell and Minister for Finance Jose Antonio Meade.
Mexico is Australia's largest partner in Latin America. Two-way trade in goods was worth more than $3 billion in 2016-2017. Australian investment in Mexico is growing rapidly, increasing from $200 million at the start of the decade to almost $6 billion today.
