Supporting business reform in the Lao People's Democratic Republic
We are delighted to announce an additional $4.1 million of aid funding for the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
A central objective of Australia's aid program in Lao PDR is to enable a stronger trade regime and a more competitive private sector.
Since 2008, Australia has been working with the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the World Bank and others to help Lao PDR integrate into the regional and global economies.
These funds will support the work Lao PDR is doing with the World Bank to reform the business climate.
With this additional Australian support, Lao PDR will open up important sectors of the economy, reduce non-tariff measures, streamline business registration processes, and strengthen private sector dialogue with the government, including through a revitalised Lao Business Forum.
These reforms will make it easier for quality Australian companies to invest, trade and grow their operations in Laos.
