OECD and WTO ministerial meetings

  • Media release

This week I will advanceAustralia's trade and investment interests at the Organisation for EconomicCooperation and Development (OECD) Ministerial Council Meeting and the WorldTrade Organization (WTO) ministerial meeting in Paris.

These meetings provide anopportunity to continue to make the case for trade liberalisation.

Through effective multilateralaction countries can work together to grow trade and create new jobs.

I will chair a meeting of tradeministers from WTO member countries. Australia is leading efforts in the WTO torevitalise negotiations in agriculture, services and digital trade. Globaltrade rules must keep up with the contemporary trading environment businessesare operating in today. I will also chair a meeting on digital trade toprogress the e-commerce initiative Australia launched at the 11th WTOMinisterial Conference in Buenos Aires last December.

During my visit I will also meetwith ministerial counterparts and French business leaders to advanceAustralia's trade, tourism and investment interests. I will advocate for theAustralia-EU trade agreement ahead of negotiations being formally launched nextmonth.
