Growing Australia-US Relationship

This week I am participating in the 24th Australian American Leadership Dialogue and meeting United States political leaders to strengthen our trade and investment relationship.

I will meet with United States Trade Representative Michael Froman to discuss our trade and investment relationship, in particular the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

I will also discuss the TPP with Senator Orrin Hatch, the most senior Republican in the Senate and Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, and Congressman Kevin Brady, Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee.

The TPP is the largest regional trade deal negotiated in more than 20 years. It is an historic agreement that will further integrate Australia into the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region.

The TPP will create new market access opportunities for Australian exporters and new investment opportunities, leading to more jobs and higher incomes for Australians. It will establish a more seamless trade and investment environment across 12 countries and address contemporary trade challenges.

The Australian American Leadership Dialogue in Washington D.C. brings together leaders from government, enterprise, media, education and community groups to consider significant aspects of the Australia-United States relationship, including economics and trade, security, innovation and technology, energy and climate, cyber and smart cities.

During the dialogue I will also meet with senior United States participants to discuss ways our countries can continue to grow our trade and investment relationship.

Australia has a strong and enduring relationship with the United States based on our shared values. As Australia's largest foreign investor and second largest two-way trade partner, we also enjoy a strong economic relationship.
