Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Dan Tehan has paid tribute to the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Frances Adamson, who will end her term on 25 June 2021.

“Frances Adamson has served Australia with distinction over a long and varied career,” Mr Tehan said.

“As Secretary of DFAT, Ms Adamson has helped lead the largest consular operation in DFAT’s history, in response to COVID-19.

“Ms Adamson has served Australia overseas in Hong Kong, Taipei and London and was Australia’s first female Ambassador to China. She was adviser to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and, earlier, Chief of Staff to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and then the Minister for Defence, Stephen Smith.

“She has been an inspiration to many and her valued counsel will be missed. I congratulate Ms Adamson on her career and wish her all the best in the future”
