Foreign investment secures manufacturing jobs for Melbourne
19 March 2014
Minister for Trade and Investment, Andrew Robb, has welcomed the decision by Grupo Alibérico, through their wholly owned subsidiary Alucoil, to open a manufacturing facility in Campbellfield which is expected to generate around 30 full time jobs once it becomes operational in August.
The facility will produce high quality aluminium composite panelling for the construction, mass transport and industrial sectors.
"This decision to manufacture light metal products in Australia recognises our ability to produce more innovative materials" Mr Robb said.
"This announcement fits within our agenda of promoting the investment priorities of advanced manufacturing, services and technologies. Materials specifically is an area where we have a number of strengths including research institutions with capabilities in light metals."
Clemente Gonzalez, President of Grupo Alibérico said the company had been implementing a major international expansion plan over the past five years.
"We will now count Australia as one of our strategic manufacturing sites globally for Alucoil advanced materials," Mr Gonzalez said.
"With an industrial presence in four continents and sales to over 45 countries, the facilities in Australia will give us capacity to serve both the domestic market and our customers in the region."
Austrade worked in partnership with the Victorian Government to secure the project, which reflects the Australian Government's commitment to attracting foreign direct investment into this national investment priority area.
